The biggest game in week two may still belong to Ohio State and Miami, but the nation's undisputed number one team is in for a real test. Alabama must fend off the Big Ten powerhouse Penn State in a game that is receiving a lot of attention. It's Nick Saban vs. Joe Paterno. These two coaching masterminds have as much intrigue as the players themselves. This game will hopefully live up to the hype.
Penn State must play top notch defense to get the upset
There is really only one surefire way for Penn State to win this game. Sure they could rely on the offense to win in a shootout, but that is a big risk. The Nittany Lions must shut down Alabama's balanced offense. Mark Ingram is a Heisman Trophy candidate who can really rack up a lot of rushing yards. Greg McElroy can lead a dynamic passing attack. Penn State needs to be blitz heavy and force McElroy to throw under pressure. They also have to limit Ingram's production. If not, things will get ugly. It is asking a lot, but they are facing the nation's number one team. It will take a lot to get the upset.
Penn State has a strong group of wide receivers who were very productive last year. The issue is at quarterback. Darryl Clark is not playing football anymore, so that leaves some serious questions to be answered. Who is the next quarterback? How good of a passer will the next quarterback be? If these two questions are not answered, then Penn State could be annihilated. They already have to play strong defense, but the offense has to do their part as well. With all these talented receivers, can Penn State still move the ball? That is the big question.
